Chinese Corner: How long have you been studying Chinese in our school center? Do you intend to continue learning Chinese here? Would you mind telling us what is the main reason for continuing studying in our center?

Jazz: I've been studying Chinese since last December. I really want to continue my lessons with your school. The main reason is that I'm satisfied with content quality and teachers.

Chinese Corner: Thank you for sharing with us your satisfying comment regarding our center.

We would like to know what was the most difficult part for you in learning Chinese? Did our Chinese teacher helped you throughout your Chinese learning?

Jazz: The most difficult part is Chinese phonics and tones. Yes, my teacher corrects me if I'm wrong but she does it very delicately so I'm never shy to speak out and I'm not afraid to make mistakes because mistakes is a part of learning.

Chinese Corner: Hahaha, that is a fact, when we are learning, we should learn more from our mistakes.

Then, Jazz, could you please share any examples or details that impressed you while studying Chinese at our school center?  (It could be some good or bad examples.)

Jazz: Due to my high concentration on conversational Chinese, I really enjoy small talks we have with my teacher. It is a mini role play: we invite each other somewhere or talking about plans or share experience in Chinese. And all these small talks are very natural and helps me to adopt to Chinese rhythm and pick extra words. I really enjoy it because being a beginner I need to pick as many new words as possible.

Chinese Corner: Aha,I can see you really are working hard on your Chinese learning.

By the way, do you usually review the words or sentences which you havelearned during class time? And how long will it take you to remember themafter class?

Jazz: It's a good question. Because the best way to learn properly is to review right after class to catch up every extra information teacher gives. And for two hours class it's a lot of information concerning structures and contents. I originally need to review about 1 hour right after class or even more. But I rarely do it because of two reasons. First is my schedule, sometimes I have something to do right after class. Secondly because I'm tired after 2 hours of learning and sitting.

Chinese Corner: haha, I understand, I know you have a busy schedule sometimes.

What difficulties have you encountered in the teaching environment,and would you mind telling us what do you think about our center’s teaching conditions? Lastly, could you please give some suggestions to improve them?

Jazz: Well, my current teacher is very good. However, before, when I received my free lesson ( I'm really thankful for them) some teachers had some lack of confidence,  and some  others really wanted to talk in English , but it was far from the content and the course’s main idea.

I guess the only one suggestion I’d have for your center is that I’d wish teachers could correct me more strictly and point out my pronunciation mistakes; because if we only praise a student, he won’t be able to improve.

Moreover, is it difficult for you to use Chinese in dailylife situations?  Or, would you mind sharing with us your experience regarding some words or sentences that you have learnt (in class), for daily life usage?

Jazz: It's very difficult to use Chinese in my daily life. That's the hardest part. It's easy to lose motivation because the results don't show up fast like with other languages. Chinese is my fourth foreign language and the most difficult one. I use Chinese with taxi drivers because sometimes they don't know how to find me or I send audio messages to Chinese people on Wechat groups and see what they can understand. But in my daily life, I usually don't use Chinese basic words that I have studied, I still needto learn a lot.

Chinese Corner: Haha, wow, you do have talent, four foreign languages! I believe you will learn well Chinese. It may just take you a little bit more time. 

Why do you think a foreign student will stop/ give up learning Chinese?Have you ever felt like giving up too?

Jazz: I gave up many times before, but it was because I wasn't serious with my intentions. The best option is to attend school or university. Chinese is not a language you can learn on a cellphone nor an application.

I used to think that Chinese was challenging and extremely hard. However, Ichanged my mind , and attitude. Because attitude matters. I try to put away all my emotions, negative experiences, stereotypes and just focus onlearning. This is the only one way.

Obviously, I can perfectly understand foreign students that gave up and quit. I know many people like this. But they may not actually know that Chinese is awesome to learn, and is an absolutely unique language, it can also can be considered like a gymnastic for the brain and tongue.

What characteristics do you think a teacher should have and that are the most appealing ? (If a teacher has the same professional background as you, for example.)

Jazz: It should be the quintessence of an easy-going personality, a good sense of humor, bubbly and at the same time mastering good teaching skills of course. Simply the person I get along with.
